Benny Friedman, Chaim Fogelman, Mitzvah Boulevard Star in Great Parade Carpool Karaoke
The Great Parade office has released an entertaining promo video in anticipation of this year’s Lag B’Omer parade, featuring a carpool karaoke video starring some of the scheduled highlights of this year’s parade—Benny Friedman, Chaim Fogelman and the Mitzvah Boulevard Muppets.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend The Great Parade in Crown Heights on Sunday, May 14th, following a tradition established by the Lubavitcher Rebbe ZT”L to host a children’s parade whenever Lag B’Omer falls on a Sunday.
“The Great Parade is a tremendous opportunity for community-wide Achdus and Ahavas Yisrael,” said Rabbi Shimon Hecht, Director of NCJFE and Parade Chairman. “Thousands of children from schools across the country march together as one, proud to celebrate their Yiddishkeit in public”.
This year’s parade will feature a star-studded lineup, including Jewish singing sensation Benny Friedman, renowned entertainer Chaim Fogelman, and the legendary Muppets from Mitzvah Boulevard. Jewish-themed floats, marching bands and a first-time BMX stunt show will join the parade program, followed by an all-day carnival in Prospect Park.
“This year’s parade will be bigger and greater than ever,” said Rabbi Hecht.
In the early 1950’s, the Lubavitcher Rebbe directed then NCFJE director Rabbi J.J. Hecht to organize a children’s parade on Lag B’Omer, bringing together Jewish children from across the tristate area in display of unity and Jewish pride. The Rebbe would personally attend the parades, watching the children and their floats march past, and would address the thousands of people gathered there.
The Lag B’Omer parades have grown over the years, and now attract thousands of people who line the closed blocks of Eastern Pkwy to celebrate the Rashbi’s Hilulah together.
